Capturing Innovation and Inspiring Creativity from Every Angle
(Hong Kong 15 July 2010) With abundant sunshine announcing the arrival of summer, Hong Kong Science Park is proud to launch its Photo and Video Contest for the second year running. Adopting the theme “Capture Innovation, Inspire Creativity”, the contest celebrates the synchronicity of technological innovation and green living at the Park, and will remain open for submission until 15 August, 2010.
Hong Kong Science Park Photo and Video Contest 2010 aims to energise innovative green thinking in the local community by providing a fun platform on which the public and the Park can connect. Contestants are invited to submit photos and/or videos capturing the Park’s innovation and its green environs in inspirational and wholly creative ways, unleashing an endless capacity to view the interaction of science and nature from a fresh perspective. The 2010 contest is sure to arouse great interest with the exciting addition of the new Video category this year, which is open to all ages. The Young Photographer category for contestants aged 16 or below will continue to provide the younger generation with opportunities to exhibit their ingenuity. Exciting prizes await the winners, including the much coveted Apple iPad for first-place winners of the Photo and Video competitions, and a hip and stylish STRiDA folding bike for the Young Photographer winner.
"A picture is worth a thousand words. Riding on the great success of last year’s contest, we are happy to announce that we will be bringing it back this summer,” said Mr. E. Anthony Tan, Chief Executive Officer of Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTPC), which is the parent organisation of Hong Kong Science Park. "In keeping with our vision of an innovative and sustainable future, this year’s theme centres on the marriage between innovation and a green environment. We introduced the new video element to engage yet another segment of local talent, and we have high hopes that the contest will become one of the Park’s flagship events, nurturing a firmer understanding of the mission of the Park and the importance of innovation for a stable society. Knowing the promising pool of creativity we have here in Hong Kong, I am confident that this year’s entries will be sure to stimulate and delight.”
HKSTPC will be hosting two thematic workshops led by industry professionals at the Park. The Night View x Light Painting Workshop and Youth Video Workshop will feature hot tips and impart important techniques which are sure to stimulate the imaginations and capture the creativity of participants. Furthermore, the contest will be headlined by trendy young ambassadors "The Voice”. We trust their passion will stimulate the imaginations of the younger generation and galvanise them into immortalising the moments that truly inspire.
This year’s panel of judges is made up of respected local authorities in film, photography and the media. Among the guest judges are Mr. Cheung King Wai, a Hong Kong Film Awards Best Director; Mr. Peter Penn, a renowned photographer; as well as Dr. Rebecca Lee, founder of the Polar Museum Foundation.
